^LightGSM is a product suited for operators looking for network expansion based on GSM technology. This product is optimized for expansion of coverage in rural areas cost effectively where the number of potential subscribers are very low to start services using standard GSM Base Stations. This product is also suitable for capacity expansion by effective utilization of spectrum using pico-cell coverage.

^LightGSM has two major modules viz., ^LightGSM server (Central site equipment) and ^LightGSM BTS (Cell site equipment). The ^LightGSM network management is carried out using the ^LightGSM Management Station.

The ^LightGSM Server performs the functions of GSM MSC/VLR and BSC. These software runs on standard server platforms. The Village GSM network is connected to the PLMN through interfaces provided at the ^LightGSM Server. PLMN interconnects are realized by ISUP and GSM MAP Interfaces over SS7 (E1 or SIGTRAN transport). The ^LightGSM server can also interface to the PLMN on A-Interface. ^LightGSM server can connect support 60 ^LightGSM BTS.

The Cell site equipment, ^LightGSM BTS provides hotspot cell coverage for GSM services within a radius of 1 km to 3 km. The ^LightGSM BTS is connected to the ^LightGSM Server through a broadband IP network.

The Subscriber end equipment is Standard GSM handsets. These handsets are used to avail GSM services within this coverage area.
